Thorpedene Junior School
As part of the Creative Partnerships scheme, sixredsquares were charged with producing an online TV station for the school that would capture the imagination of the students and create another modern learning resource for teachers and pupils.
Two members of the team took weekly sessions with a class of students, ranging from eight to eleven years old. The purpose of the sessions was to introduce the class to basic website design and make it accessible to them, inspiring ideas and suggestions for the TV station site and brand. The willingness of the students to learn about challenging new topics and techniques saw them learn about website design, marketing and branding, documenting their progress with a range of related tasks and fun activities.
A brand for the station was designed with logo and illustrated mascot, all of which were inspired and directed by the students’ ideas. The online TV website was created with a bespoke system to enable admin staff to upload video content. The final Creative Partnerships event showcased the work of all participating schools and institutions. The Thorpedene stand was converted in to a fully functional TV studio with a giant Michel Gondry inspired television made out of cardboard and decorated with students’ work from the classroom sessions.
Vinyl footprints were cutomised with student work and placed throughout the event space to guide people to the Thorpedene area. Students acted as the film crew and interviewed members of the public about their times at school. All the footage was then edited and uploaded to the website.
