Poster & banner design

It is said that a picture speaks a thousand words, and very right it is. In today’s fast paced life, we have to bring forward our ideas and thoughts in a jiffy, we cannot lose the moment given to us, and we have to make an impression in the very first stance itself. With millions of people around us, trying to make a mark, it is extremely necessary to advertise our products or our needs properly so as to catch the viewer’s eye. Occupations like working for poster design and banner design are emerging as important means. Thus nowadays we see public hoardings, posters, billboards and banners, all eager to catch the public’s eye.

A poster is a piece of paper which can be stuck onto walls or just hung. They can be either graphical or textual or both. Generally they have to be very eye-catching. They are used to convey a message or to advertise. They have been widely used for commercial, educational or political purposes. Poster designing is gradually evolving as a means of sustenance. People with a good creative eye can actually design good posters. The ingredients to a good poster are wittiness and creativity. Two centuries back, people would use paints of different colors, pens to make posters, but with the advent of technology, people are using laser jet printers to extract posters faster and in a much cleaner way. Before actually designing a poster, the designer should have a good idea of the subject of the poster. Some research work always comes handy. Also the designer should have a sound knowledge of basic computer skills needed for the printing of the poster. Then try to put your thought and pictures on a piece of paper; remember you have just a single sheet to create an impression. If text is present the font style and the font size should be carefully chosen. It should be remembered that the text in the poster is to be visible from a distance too.

Similarly we have the banner which contains a logo or a symbol with or without text on a piece of cloth. It is also a kind of a flag. Designing of banners is an ancient art. Originally used as a means of propaganda and from banning some human activities, they are nowadays used for either advertising or political or religion purposes, banners can be of various forms. Earlier banners were made only on cloth but now vinyl sheets are also used. While designing a banner one should always remember that the message should not scream out at the viewer. Also the fact that there are other competitors, who are vying for attention, should be taken into consideration. It always fruitful to offer incentives to the viewers, then they will be inclined toward the product advertised in the banner.

With the mushrooming of various activities of mankind, to work for banner design and poster design are interesting since advertising has become an important job in our increasing consumerist world.
