Like the high level of investment and development in the nineties, when the internet was spreading fast and PC’s had finally found a wider market, mobile access to the internet is reinventing the way we interact with the medium.

The iPhone and Android share this fast growing market and dominate mobile internet traffic. The reason for this is simply because their technology offers the best display and interaction with regular websites.

The trend is growing fast. In fact, if you think about it there is 3.4 billion people in the world with mobile devices today and 1.3 billion of them are mobile internet users. Up to 33% of these people access the internet solely via their mobile device. In the past few years we have seen incredible changes in the levels of internet users and the way in which they access the internet.

Designers and developers have a growing need to be educated in this area and must be ready to design websites that accommodate these technological advances and the demands of the modern user. We are very aware that these changes are part of our industry and we make every effort to continuously adapt and expand our services to meet the needs of our clients and their customers.

The interaction with these mobile devices brings new situations and challenges. The strategy and approach of the designer must be adapted to meet this new paradigm and the effect it has on design, development and marketing. A creative agency cannot offer its clients innovative, cutting edge solutions if it is not at the forefront of technological evolution.

We’ve just completed a project promoting the very first Prom Show in the UK. Our task was to create the brand and website for the show as well as promotional material like posters, leaflets and the show brochure styled as a high-school yearbook.

The Prom Show also hosted one of the early heats in the Miss England contest, with Rosie Godfrey-Lockwood picking up the prize of ‘Miss Prom Show Essex.’ She was presented with the prize by Miss England herself, Jessica Linley, and news on the event appeared on the metro website. Click here for the article.

Our latest creative partnerships project has taken us to the Basildon Lower Academy, a state of the art learning facility for secondary level students. The newly developed institution offers learners a contemporary environment in which to learn and modern, personal support to encourage achievement.

We were approached by the academy to contribute to their u:Friday workshop program by creating a project that would promote creativity and use of media among their students. The project would have to encourage creative thinking and develop the skills required to produce suitable outcomes, using appropriate media.

The team created a brief focusing on advertising and design that would encompass a range of digital and print based outcomes such as website design and branding. The students are currently re-branding the u:Friday day, learning to create an identity that communicates the exciting creative challenges they are undertaking. They will be developing their skills in the creative process and producing outcomes that will work as part of an advertising campaign.

The project will culminate in a big finale in December and our students will be creating the promotion for the event. We look forward to seeing what they produce.

sixredsquares recently picked up their fourth business award, winning the Business to Business category at the Southend District Business awards for the third year running. It is another milestone in what is turning out to be an exceptional year, with sixredsquares emerging as one of the most prominent creative agencies in the South East of England.

The night itself was the usual mix of champagne, ball gowns and cheesy smiles but this year we managed to keep ourselves sober enough to take a decent picture for the newspapers.

All joking apart, winning awards such as these are vitally important to maintaining our upward momentum and receiving recognition from some of the best businesses in the area just shows how sixredsquares continues to grow, both professionally and creatively. The business to business category in particular represents recognition of the value we add to our clients’ businesses, through innovative, functional design that brings them closer to their customers and helps to raise brand awareness.

As sixredsquares continues to grow and attract global organisations such as Bloomberg, it is important to maintain our profile in the local area. We value our place in the local business community and this award should certainly help to keep the home fires burning.

We are really pleased to announce that the Ambitions Personnel website has been shortlisted for the National Online Recruitment Awards (NORA) taking place in London this year. The awards recognise recruitment websites that offer value to job seekers through innovation and attention to detail. Only websites that demonstrate appreciation of the target audience and their needs are nominated.

For sixredsquares, the nomination represents an endorsement of the quality of our website design and builds, as well as the value we add to our clients’ businesses. Our ongoing relationship with Ambitions Personnel continues to go from strength to strength and we will certainly have our fingers crossed for them when the awards take place in Covent garden.

GOOGLE IT. Are you being Googled?

The internet holds a wealth of information. It plays an essential part in our lives. We use it to buy our groceries, read the Sunday paper, even communicate with our friends.

In short, it has changed the way people and businesses operate. For example, when you book a flight do you pop down the travel agents or hop onto Google and search for say “cheap flights”? From Google you can check, compare and book your flight. It doesn’t matter if you are sitting at home, down the pub or on your way to work. It could be 3am it still doesn’t matter. The internet is accessible 24/7, people are Googling 24/7, people are buying 24/7.

Think about the companies who come up first in Google for the search “cheap flights”, did you know that this was typed into Google 101,000,000 times last month. I think it’s safe to say that Ryan Air, Monarch, and Flybe are all making a lot of money being on page 1 of Google for this search term.

So the question is why do these companies appear on page 1 for the search “cheap flights”? There are 57,200,000 other websites that Google have found that are related to cheap flights. How does Google rank them in order of importance?

If you were thinking that it’s purely because they are big brands then you would be wrong. Although it does help, it is not the reason they are there. The reason is because they understand how to market their businesses online.

Do you know if people are Googling for your services? Do you know how many people are Googling for your services?

If you want to start utilizing the Web and making money from Google then contact us at sixredsquares and get our free online marketing information pack. In this pack we will tell you everything you need to know about getting your website found on Google. More people finding your website equals increased brand awareness and more business opportunities.

The brief was to create a modern and engaging website that was sustainable and would stand the test of time. The site had to adapt to the online behaviour of the modern job seeker and meet their needs through clear, consistent navigation and functionality. The integration of social networking was a key requirement.

Towards the end of last year I was interviewed for a technology blog about the relationship between PR and the media. One of the questions was “Have you had to change your writing style for online copy to incorporate SEO?” and my only answer was, “What’s SEO?”.

The world’s richest man shouldn’t need free advice on “search engine optimisation” (SEO) that would lift his new blog in Google’s search results, and Bing’s. But since he could benefit from some, Danny Sullivan of Search Engine Land has provided it in Some SEO…

Earlier this week I talked about how a recession may be the best thing for SEO. Let’s revisit that bold statement and also how to make the most out of a downturn in the economy using SEO.

There will be firms and people within the industry that will feel the same pains of a recession…
